Family Helper Day: Laundry day

A clean basket sits in the den.

Bennie pats the towel stack.

"Your turn at home," he says.

Rosie cheers. "Sort, match, fold. Go!"

  1. Sort dirty laundry into lights and darks.
  2. Your grown-up loads and runs the machine.
  3. Match socks into pairs. Count them.
  4. Fold towels in half and half again.
  5. Make a pile for each person. Put yours away.
◇ FAMILY LAUNDRY DAY
Sort the dirty basket with your grown-up.
Lights in one pile, darks in another.
Your grown-up loads and runs the machine.
Later, pour clean socks on the table.
Match every pair. Count the pairs out loud.
Fold the towels. Half, then half again.
Make a pile for each person. Carry yours to your drawer.
Safety first
Your grown-up handles the machine, the soap and the dryer.
Never climb on or into a machine.
Carry small piles so you can see your feet.
Open low drawers only.
For a grown-up
Let your child sort before you start the wash.
Ask: how many pairs did you find?
Show the towel fold once, then let them try.
Praise the trying, not a perfect fold.
