Family Helper Day: The celebration

The den is full. Ferris the Fox stands by the Helper chart, every square starred.

Lucy the Ladybug holds her note. Freddy the Frog holds the Keeper chart. Rosie the Rabbit holds her breath.

Ferris looks at you. "Twelve weeks, Helper. You learned every job. Today your family notices, together."

Rosie cannot wait. "Three cheers for the Home Helper!"

  1. A thank-you note: greeting, what they did, how it helped, closing, sign.
  2. Specific beats vague. Draft, read aloud, neat copy.
  3. Eleven jobs from eleven hosts. You still know them all.
  4. A Keeper chart with five jobs to keep.
  5. A celebration: gather, share, read, notice, cheer.
◇ FAMILY HELPER DAY: THE CELEBRATION
Gather: everyone sits together. Put the Keeper chart in the middle.
Share: the helper tells one proud job. Job, steps in order, what changed.
Read: the helper reads the thank-you note out loud and hands it to the person.
Notice: each family member names one real thing the helper did this year.
Cheer: everyone says together, Three cheers for the Home Helper!
Hang the Keeper chart where everyone can see it. The five jobs start Monday.
A snack your grown-up chose, eaten together, is a fine way to end.
For a grown-up
Keep it short and real. Ten minutes is plenty.
In the Notice part, be specific. Name the job and the moment, not just good job.
The Keeper chart is the real finish line. Check it with your child each evening this week.
Safety first
A grown-up does any step that needs a chair, high tape or scissors.
Streamers and paper decorations are fine. No candles or anything hot.
