Chris the Coyote peeks into the den. "Bruce the Bobcat has this week's job, and it is a big one."
Bruce sits very straight. "My job is being ready. Ready for anything."
Ferris the Fox tilts his head. "Ready how?"
Bruce taps his chest. "I know my grown-up's name. I know how to reach them. I know where I live. I learned it all at home, and I practiced until it stuck."
Most jobs are things you do, like folding or sweeping. Being ready is a job you carry with you.
If you ever get separated from your grown-up, a helper will need three things. Your grown-up's full name. A way to reach them. Where you live.
You learn these at home with your grown-up. You practice them out loud until they stick. You never type them into a screen, and this lesson will never ask you to.
