Chris the Coyote peeks into Hazel's burrow. "Hazel, your bed looks like a leaf pile!"
Hazel the Hedgehog laughs. "That is why this week is mine. My room, my job." She pulls the sheet flat. "Step one." She smooths the blanket. "Step two." She folds the top edge down. "Step three." She places the pillow. "Step four."
Chris blinks. "That took one minute." Hazel grins. "Four steps, every morning. The room starts the day neat."
A bed is the biggest thing in most rooms. When the bed is neat, the whole room looks better.
Making the bed also wakes you up. It is a quick win before breakfast. One job done before the day even starts.
Hazel's way has four steps. Learn them in order and the bed takes about a minute.
The goal is smooth, not perfect. A few wrinkles are fine. A blanket that hangs a little lower on one side is fine.
Smoothing means pushing the lumps out with flat hands. Start in the middle and push toward the edges.
If the sheet is twisted, do not fight it. Pull it all the way off and start again. That is faster.
| Step | What it looks like when done |
|---|---|
| 1. Sheet flat | No big wrinkles. Corners still tucked under the mattress. |
| 2. Blanket smooth | Covers the sheet. Hangs about the same on both sides. |
| 3. Top edge folded | A neat band at the top, about one hand wide. |
| 4. Pillow on top | Pillow sits on the folded band, not under it. |

One minute, four steps, one neat bed. Tomorrow Hazel shows you how to sort your drawers by kind.
