Rocket grabs a pretty cup with no holes.

Raven asks, "What do you notice under the cup?"

Nova says, "Think about extra water."

Plants for a sunny window

Bean plants need full sun.

Marigolds need full sun too.

Marigold flowers can be yellow, orange or white.

So both plants need your sunniest window.

Pots need holes

A pot for little plants needs drainage holes.

Drainage holes are in the bottom of the pot.

They let extra water drain out.

Set each pot on a tray or plate.

Keep the potting mix damp while seeds sprout.

Try it: Draw your garden plan

  1. Draw your sunniest window on big paper.
  2. Draw the windowsill under it.
  3. Draw two or three pots on trays.
  4. Draw a plant in each pot: beans or marigolds.
  5. Add little dots on the bottom for drainage holes.
  6. Draw a watering can next to your garden.
