Monday: What is soil?

Rocket scoops soil into a cup. "It is just dirt!"

Raven looks with a magnifier. "What do you notice?"

Nova says, "Look for big bits and tiny bits."

Soil has four parts

Soil is the loose top layer of the ground.

Soil is made of four things.

It has tiny bits of rock, called minerals.

It has water and air.

It has old bits of plants and animals.

Rock bits

Sand is made of rock bits.

Clay is made of rock bits too.

Clay bits are the tiniest.

Sand bits are bigger.
