Wednesday: Seeds can wait

Rocket finds an old bag of dry beans.

"These beans are not growing," he says.

Raven asks, "What do you notice? Are they wet?"

Nova says, "Seeds can wait."

A seed waits

The tiny plant in a dry seed is resting.

It can wait a long time.

The seed coat keeps most water out.

When it is time, the seed takes in water.

Then the tiny plant can start to grow.

Lunch in a seed

The tiny plant cannot make food yet.

It has no green leaves out in the light.

So it uses the food stored in the seed.

That is why seeds are packed with food!
