Grow It Day: Plant walk

Rocket grabs paper and a pencil.

"Let us find five plants!" he says.

Raven asks, "What do you notice about each one?"

Nova says, "Look closely. Leave them growing."

  1. Plants are living things.
  2. Plants need water and light.
  3. Plants make their own food with light.
  4. Roots, stems, leaves and flowers have jobs.
  5. Grass, flowers and trees are all plants.
◇ GO ON A PLANT WALK
Take a short walk with your grown-up.
Look for five different plants.
Stop at each plant.
Look for roots, a stem, leaves or flowers.
Draw each plant on your paper.
Count your plants when you get home.
Safety first
Stay with your grown-up the whole time.
Do not pick or touch plants you do not know.
Never eat any berry, leaf, seed or flower you find.
Leave bees alone. Watch them from far away.
Wash your hands when you get home.
For a grown-up
Ask: which plant was the biggest?
Ask: which parts could you see?
Praise careful looking, even with fewer than five plants.
