Rocket holds up a rock and a little green plant.

"Which one is alive?" he asks.

Raven asks, "What do you notice?"

Nova hums. "Which one can grow?"

Living things grow

A plant is a living thing.

Living things grow and change.

A tiny plant can grow tall.

A rock does not grow at all.

A toy does not grow either.

Plants need things

Plants need water to live and grow.

Plants need light to live and grow too.

A rock needs nothing. It is not alive.
