Monday: Weather or Climate?

Rocket bursts in with a seed packet. "It is warm and sunny today!" he says. "Let's plant everything right now!"

Raven checks the calendar. "What do you notice about the date? It is still early spring."

Nova hovers by the window. "One warm day is weather," she says. "What does this place usually get in spring?"

Rocket slowly puts the packet down.

Weather and climate

Weather is what the air is like right now, in one place.

It can be rainy today and sunny tomorrow. Weather changes fast.

Climate is the weather a place usually has.

Scientists find a climate by watching the weather for many years.

They usually use 30 years or more.

The main difference between weather and climate is time.

Measure it. Count its leaves. Write the numbers next to today's weather.

Great weather watching! Tomorrow we read a weather table and draw a graph.
