The button pushes the ink tube down.
The spring gets squeezed.
The tip comes out, and you can write.
Click again, and the spring pushes the ink tube back up.
Without the spring, the tip could not go back up.
The spring stores your push.
Then it gives the push back.
That is why a click pen needs a spring.
