// A pump that never stops
⏱ about 15 min

Thursday: Feel your pulse

Raven presses two fingers on her wrist. Tap, tap, tap!

Rocket asks, "How can we feel a heart from outside?"

Nova says, "Find the beat with gentle fingers."

Your pulse

Your heart is inside you.

But you can feel it working from outside!

The beat you feel is called your pulse.

Each beat comes from one heart squeeze.

Where to feel it

Turn one hand palm up.

Find the spot just below your thumb.

Press there gently with two fingers of your other hand.

You can also try the side of your neck.

Be still and wait. Do you feel a small beat?

For a grown-up
Help your child find the pulse below the thumb.
Use the pads of two fingers, not the thumb.
It can take practice, and that is fine.
If you have health questions, ask a doctor or nurse.
