Monday: My nose can smell

Rocket sniffs the air. "I smell oranges!"

Raven asks, "What do you notice?"

Nova hovers near the bowl. "How did the smell find your nose?"

Smells ride on the air

Tiny bits from an orange float into the air.

You breathe in, and the air goes into your nose.

The tiny bits ride along with the air.

High inside your nose are special smell catchers.

The smell catchers notice the tiny bits.

Your brain names the smell

The smell catchers send a message to your brain.

Your brain says, "That smell is an orange!"

Your brain can know about 10,000 different smells.

That is a lot of smells!
