Monday: Sleep, the Night Shift

Rocket yawns over his workbench. "I stayed up late building a gadget," he says. "Why is my brain so foggy?"

Raven sets down her map. "What do you notice about how you feel today?"

Nova dims her lights to a soft glow. "Your body has a night shift," she says. "What happens while you rest?"

Rocket rubs his eyes. "Let's find out. After a nap, maybe."

Why we sleep

Every creature needs rest. Sleep gives your body a rest and gets it ready for tomorrow.

Sleep helps you learn and remember. It helps you focus and think clearly.

In kids, sleep also helps the body grow.

During some sleep, your heart rate slows. Your heart does not work as hard.

Some immune cells work harder while you sleep.
