Week 11 Β· Count and Compare

Monday

Sun and shade
// Sunny spot, shady spot
⏱ about 15 min

Monday: Sun and shade

Rocket flops down under the big tree.

"It is so much cooler here!" he says.

Raven asks, "What do you notice on the ground?"

Nova says, "Compare the sunny grass."

Rocket and Raven count butterflies in a wild corner.

Two kinds of spots

A sunny spot gets light from the Sun all day.

The ground there is warm and bright.

A shady spot is blocked from the Sun.

A tree, a wall or a house can make shade.

Shady ground is cooler.

It often stays damp longer.

Different spots, different neighbors

Living things pick spots that fit their needs.

Some plants need lots of sun.

Some plants do well in shade.

Some bugs like warm, sunny leaves.

Others hide in cool, damp shade.

So sunny and shady spots have different living things.
