Explorer Day: Track hunt

Rain fell last night.

"Mud means tracks!" Rocket says.

Raven brings the notebook and a pencil.

Nova says, "Count the toes you see."

  1. Mammals have fur or hair.
  2. Baby mammals nurse from their mother.
  3. Animals leave signs: tracks, holes, nibbles, fur.
  4. Watch wild animals from far away.
  5. Never feed a wild animal.
  6. Some animals are awake at night.
◇ EXPLORER DAY TRACK HUNT

Look in mud, sand or soft dirt.

Is it big or small? Compare it to your hand.
Draw the track in your notebook.
Look for a second track nearby.
Safety first

Never touch droppings or an animal lying still.
