Explorer Quest: Person or tool?

Rocket, Raven and Nova draw picture cards.

They sort them into two piles.

Raven asks, "Does it have feelings?"

  1. Some AI can talk in everyday words.
  2. A microphone picks up sounds.
  3. A speaker plays sounds.
  4. A talking machine is a tool.
  5. It is not a person.
  6. It has no feelings and can be wrong.
◇ PERSON OR TOOL SORT
Draw six picture cards together.
Draw people, pets and machines.
Sort them: has feelings, or no feelings.
Talk about each card.
For a grown-up
Ask: what did you notice?
Pets and people have feelings.
Machines, even talking ones, do not.
Remind them: ask you before using any app.
