Wednesday: Explorer Lab: Sort and count

Rocket pours out a bin of buttons.

"Let's sort them!" Raven says.

Raven asks, "What do you notice?"

Nova hints, "Then count each group."

You will need

  • About twelve big buttons or toy blocks
  • Three paper plates or bowls
  • Paper and a crayon
Safety first
Buttons are small. A grown-up watches closely.
Use big blocks for very young kids.
Nothing goes in your mouth or nose.
Put everything away when you finish.

What to do

  1. Pick a rule, like sort by color.
  2. Put one plate out for each group.
  3. Sort every button onto a plate.
  4. Count each plate.
  5. Color one box per button in the chart.
