Explorer Quest: Graduation Day

The station galley is decorated with star-shaped paper lanterns.

A banner over the table reads "AI Explorers: Review Board Graduates".

Rocket practices his presentation one last time. "Job, users, data, test, bias fix," he mutters.

Raven straightens the Sky Sorter design brief on its stand. "What do you notice? We did not just learn about AI. We learned to question it."

Nova dims the lights and shines a spotlight on the stage. "Your audience is here," she says.

Rocket takes a deep breath and steps forward. "Welcome to the AI Review Board."

  1. Trustworthy AI is valid and reliable, safe, and secure and resilient.
  2. It is also accountable and transparent, explainable and interpretable, privacy-enhanced, and fair with harmful bias managed.
  3. Transparency shows information about a system. Accountability depends on it.
  4. Explainability is how it works. Interpretability is what its output means for the job.
  5. Training and running generative AI can have large energy footprints.
  6. Real AI is a tool people build. It does not think or feel like a person, and it can be wrong.
◇ THE DESIGN BRIEF PRESENTATION
Present your Sky Sorter design brief to your family, section by section.
Invite your audience to be the review board. Ask each person for one piece of feedback.
Write down every piece of feedback, then pick one change you would make.
End with a graduation moment: shake hands, take a bow, or give a cheer.
For a grown-up
Your explorer has spent twelve weeks learning how AI is built, tested, checked and questioned, all on paper.
Ask: what makes an AI system trustworthy? What would you check before trusting one?
Celebrate their questions as much as their answers. Asking good questions is the real skill.
GRADUATION CHECK
  • Read the question.
  • Tap your answer.
A new AI system is about to be used. What should happen first?
What should you do before using any AI tool outside this course?
Who builds AI systems and is responsible for them? Type one word.
WHY THIS EXERCISEPeople build AI, so people are responsible for making it trustworthy. Congratulations, AI Explorer!
On paper, design your AI Explorer graduation certificate. Add a badge for each week's big idea.
