Explorer Quest: Yes or No Tree Game

Rocket thinks of something on the station. "You get yes or no questions only," he says.

Raven taps her chin. "What do you notice about good questions? They cut the choices in half."

"Is it bigger than a chair?" she asks. "No!" says Rocket.

Nova hovers near Raven. "Write each question down," she hints. "You are building a tree!"

  1. A feature is a clue, like color, shape or size.
  2. A decision tree is a model made of yes or no questions.
  3. A model is a simple version of something. It leaves things out.
  4. AI keeps a model of the world. It does not think like a person.
  5. Testing a model shows where it needs fixing.

One person thinks of an object in your home.
Everyone else asks yes or no questions to find it.
Write each question and answer on paper, one under the next.
Draw lines from each question to the next. That is your tree!
Take turns being the thinker.
At the end, circle the question that helped the most.
For a grown-up
Good questions split the choices in half, like "Is it in the kitchen?"
Ask: which question cut out the most things?
Ask: how is this game like the crew's sorting tree?
